I taught
Kindergarten and First Grade for 5 years
and, then in 1998, I decided that I wanted
to be at home with my newborn daughter and,
later, with my son. During that time, I
tapped into my creative side, selling
scrapbook materials and teaching scrapbook
classes. I also loved updating our home with
paint colors, murals, and room
rearrangements. I was constantly helping
friends and family choose paint colors,
accessorizing their homes, rearranging their
rooms and was told by many of them that I
should go into business.
In 2003, my husband
and I bought a 1904 “American Foursquare”
house in the historic part of Arlington
Heights, IL. We worked very
closely with our architect to develop a
space just right for us and make it our
home; gutting and remodeling the first floor
and re-furbishing the second. And every
Tuesday morning, my husband and I would go
to the various sub-contractors and choose
our options. When the project was finished,
I was sad…not because I did not completely
love it, but because the process was over!
So, I started
arranging and re-arranging our furniture,
repositioning our accessories and art, and
painting walls. I also became a consultant
for
“Southern Living At HOME” which sells
home accessories…I guess the
teacher in me couldn’t miss a chance to
stand up and talk about fabulous décor
items!
Since decorating
had become a passion and I couldn’t stop
thinking about it, I decided to
pursue it and become a Certified Interior
Redesigner in 2005. Shortly after that,
was born and I began working with clients to
help them make their homes everything they
desired. After helping clients redesign and
choose paint colors for their homes, I went
back to
Redesigning Interiors and added
“professional home staging” to my repertoire
in early 2006.
As
a charter member of
The Society of Decorating Professionals
(SDP), I also attended the annual conference
in Erie, Pennsylvania in August and was
awarded certification in both Redesign and
Staging. In December of 2006, I became an
Interior Decorating Professional (IDP) after
taking a class from
Joanne Lenart-Weary of One Day Decorating,
co-founder of the SDP with Kris Porter and
Jane Douglas of
Redesigning Interiors. I have recently
registered for a Color Theory class to
continue to reinforce and sharpen my skills.
I will be attending the SDP conference in
Chicago this year, as well.
I am so excited
that I get to teach clients
(about decorating principles and how they
apply to them), help them find their
decorating style and anticipate what their
needs will be; all while using my skills to
do something that I truly I love.
The fact that my
work will have an impact on the life of a
family on a daily basis is such an honor!
Where I put chairs will impact
how a husband and wife communicate. The game
table I select will set the stage for family
fun and interaction. The color I chose for
the walls will impact the emotion of each
individual that sits in the space. I can
nurture them, long after I have left them.
I am so looking forward to working with
you!
